our story
From an early age, Dave and Jenn both always had an interest in nature and gardening. Growing up in Florida, Dave was surrounded by lush tropical plants and botanic gardens. Meanwhile, Jenn had been growing vegetables and flowers from seed from an early age, just like her mother and grandmothers before her. Jenn and Dave grew up a thousand miles away from each other, but fate has a way of bringing like-minded people together. In 2004, they crossed paths when Jenn was hired as a Manager/Horticulturist at a Garden Center & Nursery where Dave was working as a Landscape Foreman. Soon after, they began building a life and a new dream together.
From those early days of working together, Jenn and Dave bonded over the idea of opening a small, specialty nursery to cater to quirky plant collectors. Now, after 20 years of working alongside each other in the horticulture industry, that dream has become a reality! In September of 2022, they took a risk on a neglected and overgrown plot of land that no one else wanted. They removed derelict structures from the property, cleared out the overgrown vegetation, rehabilitated the existing barn, added growing fields, display gardens, a studio, and a free-standing restroom, in less than two years time.
Dave and his mentor, Alan Miller, moved operations of their landscape design and construction company, River Rock Landscape, LLC, to the property in the spring of 2023. Then in the autumn of 2024, Jenn moved her botanical boutique, Muhly & Cedar, ( now Cedar Farm & Nursery) from it’s former location in Shrewsbury to the farm as well. What they’ve created is a destination for plant lovers in York County, and a homebase for the two plant lovers who started it all.
